winchester model 70 info/value

This gun is going to be in a local auction, so this is the only photo i can get. I do not know much if anything about these kinds of rifles, so could i get an approximate age, value, how much i look to try to get it for at auction, and anything else you notice. I realize you cant se everything you need to see close up, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

    We do not have nearly enough information to answer your questions. Winchester manufactured the Model 70 from 1936 - 1980. The U.S. Repeating Arms Co. continued production of the Model 70 in early 1981, and continued to make them until March of 2006. The only way we can determine the age of the gun you are looking at is if you can post the serial number. Also of great importance is the specific caliber/cartridge chambering.

    I would love to post more information if i could, all i can add is that it is a 30-06. It was listed in the local paper under an estate auction coming up this weekend and i stole the picture from the auctioneers website, they have not responed to my questions.

    That looks like a post-63 Model 70 XTR. As far as I know, that was the only model that they tried to mimmic the Remington 700BDL with the white line spaceers in the forend tip, pistol grip cap, and butt plate. I would say middle to late 70's, and shouold go for 600-700.00.

    I know what the plant closing at New Haven done for values. It is nuts out there. I am however, amazed that with today's political climate, that FN, the owners of Browning and Winchester, has not produced an AR-15, and AR-10 with the Winchester name on it. It would be a BIG seller. After all, FN has produced AR-15's/M-16's for the US Government.

    Although the prices have gone up on the model 70's , I wouldn't go more then $500 on that one . 06's are all over the place .
    Heres a link to a nice one right here on GB I'v been keeping my eye on . I don't think this one will go for more then that , but only time will tell .

    It's crazy how the prices have gone through the roof on these rifles , some of the dealers are down right nuts on some of their prices [}:)]
