Find more info on Belgian built 243

I got this gun from a friend in trade and need something with a lighter stock for my son to use. This is a pretty sweet custom 243. Here's what I can tell:

One side of the barrel says:
- Made in Belgium
- Serial number C1X31 (X in place of another number)
- Then, same number with out the C (1X31) on barrel

Other side of the barrel says:
- Chrome Vanadium Steel
- Cal. .243
- "K" with a star over it
- "R" with a crown over it
- Funky stick figure then a line then "PV"
- Crown over an egg with "ELG" then a star

I believe the action is Mauser action with Weaver type scope mount (Buehler Orinda, CAL.) and a Weaver scope marked:
- WEAVER K4 60-B

Any idea who made this and what it might be worth?

    Now I'm thinking it's got FN action... Not Mauser

    There have been many makers of Mauser Type 98 Actions yours seems to be a Factory Commercial 98 type action made by F.N. and most likely bought as a Barreled Action . The stock does not look factory to me and it's style may or may not be pleasing to every one . I think it will bring less then a factory built complete rifle. I would say $500.00 + or - your mileage may vary.

    It is a Mauser and it was manufactured by FN. This style was referred to as the 'Improved' M98 Mauser.

    Mausers such as yours, that have been so-called 'customized' generally run in the neighborhood of $350 to $500 depending on the amount of damage done in the customizing. They are not necessarily collectible but they are desirable as far as Mauser lovers are concerned. Sometimes, given a great piece of wood, carved by a great stockmaker, these can sell for substantial prices.

    Agree with the posts on it being an FN mauser. The proof marks you list are definitely Belgian. From the picture I thought it might be a Browning High-Power but the serial number doesn't seem to match the Browning sequences. Browning did use the small ring mauser action for 243 and 308 on their early High-Power rifles before using the Sako barrelled actions. The picture looks exactly like the Browning High-Power 308 I have from circa 1959 but with a non-Browning stock and my barrel is marked Browning.
