Kimber Problems

Have a full size Kimber TLE/RL, purchased "NIB" at a gun-show about six months ago. The only change has been made to the grips. I use only Wilson Combat Magazines or Chip McCormick Power Mags. Ammunition has varied from Federal 230 gr to Winchest 230 gr to Hornady 230 gr - misfeeds continually after the first magazine is emptied. Under "normal" range shooting - slow target acquisition, slow steady trigger press - no problem. When I start speeding things up, the misfeeds start happening. The gun is has accurate as any I have owned so no complaints there. Have had others fire the weapon with the same results. Any suggestions?

    INHO speed should have no bearing on function unless you are griping pistol different the cycle time is very short and new round should be in chamber before you have finished recoil from the fired round. I suspect the Extractor and or Ejector needs tuning.

    Probably not much help here, but within the first 200 - 300 rounds through an Ultra-Carry, I had a similar problem. Typically I bring 3 pistols to the range, and after shooting 40 or so through each, I would see this problem with the Kimber. I think it was how my hold weakened or changed over time, as the problem has ceased. It may have been simply breaking in the pistol, or it may have been me. Not 100% sure.

    All I can offer is that now, with both Hydra-Shok and ball ammo, there is no problem with the Kimbers.

    try a plain jane mag and see[?]

    Internal or external extractor?? They have had problems with the externals to the point that they will replace them, and I have seen some of the newer ones with internal extractors again. New Kimbers like to be well lubricated. Plus, try what has been suggested, other mags.

    Anything that can slow up feeding and chambering can be at fault.
    You should get a Wolf slide spring calibration pack and use the strongest spring that gives reliable feeding that will also hang the slide open after the last shot.
    Since this happens with a variety of mags, forget stronger mag springs.
    As it happens after the first mag, my take is the feed ramp , chamber and breech face get a little smoked up causing more drag. The stronger slide spring may overcome that.
    The entry part of the extractor may be too tight and need opening slightly or polishing.
    Lastly, polishing the ramp, chamber top, breech face and throating the chamber entrance will also improve feeding reliability.
    You may isolate the problem by slowly cycling a dirty gun by hand.
    In the Army, I converted a 1911A1 to full automatic fire. The rate was easily 650 rpm so it's capable of cycling a good deal faster than one can shoot a semiauto.
