Western Field 410-- From my youth???

My 1st hunt was for doves in Kansas in the late 60's with my dad and uncles, Great time for a 8yr old. The shotgun was a Western Field 410 single shot (not ss bolt) Instead of the typical lever that you push to the side, this gun had a thumb switch/lever that you pulled back to break the auction. If I remember right there was no outside hammer. I'm hopping from the description someone can tell me the model number or photo. I've looked for years for a photo or model number or the gun with no luck. Any info will help me very much Thanks Vernon

  Western Field was made for Montgomery Wards by a lot of different companies the majority of guns were made by Mossberg, Stevens, Savage, and Marlin with a lot of different model numbers. Maybe someone remembers a model number for you. Good Luck

  Well, I THINK the Stevens 940A was a single shot 410, with a side break lever- but it had a hammer. Savage/Stevens/Springfield was a somewhat incestous group of companies, and yes, they made a number of "trade" or "hardware" guns- that is, Sears, Western Auto, Montgomery Wards, etc.
