Double choke???????

A buddy of mine and I were talking the other day and he remembers seeing an old long gun when he was a kid and said it said "double choke" on it. He also remembers seeing the end of the bbl taper drastically to the the naked eye.

Anyone know what he might be speaking of?

    In all my borned days, I've yet to come across any references or examples of anything like "double choke". Now that's not to say I've seen everything, but maybe I only think I have.

    HOWEVER; your friend may be remembering seeing a shotgun that was made with 'swaged choke'. The process was simply to swage the outside of the barrel to form the choke restriction on the inside. With such a barrel you will see the barrel narrow toward the muzzle.

    With the choke restriction in a shotgun barrel it is possible to go too far. Too much choke tends to have a reverse effect on the pattern. Most popular theory to explain why is that too much restriction deforms the shot so that it tends to fly helter-skelter.
