Ithaca 37 ejection problem
I have a 1975 Ithaca 12g Featherlight that unpredictably jams after being fired and will not eject. Has anyone experienced this problem or have any insight/suggestions on fix?

Remember the Chamber is larger then the bore and any GUNK//RUST//PLASTIC DEPOSITS from the shells will cause the next case to stick to the chamber a bore brush WILLNOT get this chamber clean If you can remove the barrel do so and then get a larger bore brush and don't jam in the bore just use it on the chamber. you might want to polish the chamber with some J.B.bore cleaner on a rag wrapped around a bore brush in & out chamber only. 0 -

I have been shooting 37"s for 40 years. I did have a similiar problem in a well used DS Police Special. What I found was crud had built up around the locking lug or bolt. The bolt cams into a recess in the top of the receiver. The crud blocked the bolt frm being released when fired. I did a complete teardown and cleaning. The gun is a bit difficult to disassemble if you do not have a guide. It reguires removal of the buttstock to slide the trigger group out the back of the receiver allowing acess to clean the receiver and all the internal parts. The shotgun was John Browning designed so expact guality design. The NRA assembly/disassembly has the Ithaca's listed. 0 -
I had a problem with my 37. The action would randomly jam after firing, requiring takedown of the gun.
This problem confounded me to the point of taking it up to Ithaca.
They charged me $50 and spent five minutes with it. They wouldn't tell me what they did but they recognized the problem right away.
It wasn't cleaning.0 -
My problem is just as V35 describes. I've completely disassembled the receiver every time this happens and cleaned it. It may happen right after cleaning or it may happen after firing 150 rounds. 0 -

I just got a 1975 Ithaca model 37 featherlight deerslayer 12ga. with a smooth bore barrel.
I had it lock up on me after the first shot. I took it completely apart and cleaned it an lightly oiled it (very lightly) and took it out shot it once and it jamed again.
I have just noticed that if i loosen the nut at the top all the way and twist the barrel back and forth while working the action(pump) it shot the empty shell out.
I have do idea what is wearing out that would cause it do do this every time i shoot it.
I get that it's getting misaligned, but why, how, and is there a pix? Is it the locking threads on the barrel? Or could it be from not tightening that mag/ barrel locking screw cap all the way night (by hand)?

I still have dad's 37's from the 60's. Never had your problem. The barrel nut needs to be tight. I think the correct procedure is to open the bolt, insert the barrel into the receiver (look at the barrel/receiver interface should be almost gap free), rotate it 90 degrees the screw out the locking magazine cap until its tight. No tools needed.
The old ones prior to 750,000 IIRC were fitted barrels, after that they were plug and play. You might have a bubba fitted unit unless you bought it new in the box.
Try some different types of ammo such as a low base target like a AA.
