What is the leagle barrel length of a rifle or shotgun?

  Rifle is 16" and shotgun is 18".

  Peary is correct. Overall length must be at least 26" as well as barrel length. Measure barrel by closing action, insert dowel down barrel, mark dowel at muzzle, withdraw, measure dowel.

  Check your state laws as well. Some states also restrict rifle barrel lengths to 18". For example, my Beretta Storm 9mm carbine has a 16" barrel and is illegal in Massachusetts.
