Ithaca double brrl 16 gauge hammerless
Wondered when this was manufactured and what the value of something like this might be. Not sure how the serial reads, it looks like it could be read either way. I know a value would be hard to establish without seeing the gun itself, but can I get a general idea of the highs and lows. Serial 68096 or 96089. From looking at the Ithaca posts here I think it's a Model 14104.

There is no such thing as a Model 14104. I suspect that the "14104" is a serial number. Where on the gun is it marked "14104"?
Being that you state that it is hammerless, it is more likely to be serial number 96089. The serial number should be marked in three locations... on the watertable (the flat area of the frame that the barrels rest on when it is closed), on the bottom of the barrels, and on the steel piece in the forend stock.

I thought I saw a photo of an Ithaca shotgun like what I have and thats where I got the 14104 number. Quite possibly I mistook the name of the photo as the model # of the shotgun. Looking at it again, pretty sure your correct. Reading the numbers looking at the ser. # from the same side of the gun as the numbers, 96089 would be correct. The numbers match on the barrel, the frame and the front grip. Lots of nice patina on the barrel, not perfect, and very nice engravings on the frame. ( bird dog, grouse, pheasant perhaps ). Stock has a few marks from wear and tear but all the engraving on the stock and front grip look pretty nice. As I have done in the past, I will post some pics as soon as I am able. Any ballpark values ?? Maybe just a high end price to determine where mine stands as far as value. Apart right now and getting cleaned up some, it has some issues, but the bores look pretty nice, not perfect, but nice.

The Models were names back in those early days, and if the serial number is 96089, it should be a Crass Model.
Without knowing a lot more about the gun, I would prefer not to try and guess at a "ball park" value... it would be useless information to both of us.
It sounds like you might have a higher grade gun... what is the number stamped on the left side of the watertable just above the gauge number?
Does it have damascus tubes?

My book shows that the serial number is too high for a Crass model, it says that it should be a Lewis model. Values are almost the same. Even the lower grades had the bird dog. I saw a nice one go for $500 not long ago. They had a rough one at the last show for $250. Of course if you have a mint high grade variation the value could be up in the thousands. 0 -
It has a "4" under the 16, and working on some photos.

Don't remember how to post pics, don't see the option to do that and can't remember how I did it before. Photobucket and post the image tag ?? It looks it says Ithaca Gun Co. on both sides of the frame.

You are correct... the Crass Model ends at circa serial number 94108. That is what I get from trying to rely on my fading memory[:I]0 -

It's not a "fading memory"---- it's from repeated collisions with bulkheads and the recoil from those POS 21's !0
