LeveRevolution Ammo
I have heard that this ammo is fine to load in a lever action rifle even though it has a pointed composite tip. I would like to try these in my 30/30. Anyone use them? Any problems? Thanks for all info.

Is it OK to shoot the new LeveRevolution ammo by Hornady in older Marlin lever action rifles? I know the LeveRevolution innovation enables better ballistics with pointed plastic-tip bullets, as opposed to the older rounded bullet tips demanded by tubular magazines. But do the LeveRevolution rounds operate at greatly increased pressures? 0 -

For mljackso: Thanks for asking this question. I have an older Marlin .30-30 and had wondered this myself based on the way the Marlin catalogue seemed to suggest that a certain rifle was dedicated to this new ammo. 0 -
These rounds are specifically designed to run at the same pressure as standard rounds, so they should be safe in any gun that is in good working condition.
As you say, the pointed bullet shape allows for better ballistics with more energy retention at distance, but another "secret" (supposedly) is use of proprietary powders that get higher velocities without much increase in pressure.
In other words, there is more to it than just special soft-tipped pointy bullets!0 -
I own a classic 336 in 35 Rem and an 1895M in 450 Marlin. I am glad to hear I can use the newer ammo, even though I do not have one of the newer "XLR" (Xtra Long Range) Marlin rifles. THANKS TO ALL! 0 -
The reason for the recommendation of the XLR rifles: to utilize the full extra performance of the LeveRevolution ammo you would need the longer 24" barrel. The shorter ones may not get all the push of the "special" powder formulation. One would guess that they are using a slower-burning powder! I have chronographed the LeveRevolution ammo in my 1959 vintage Marlin 336ADL in .35 Remington with 24" barrel and I am getting approximately the advertised velocities. And to put icing on the cake, I have found the LeveRevolution ammo to be supremely accurate in my rifle. The far-better ballistic coefficient of the new bullets remains despite if launched at a slower launch velocity in the more-common 20" barrels. 0 -
PA, you make a good point. My old 336 "RC" is a carbine with 19.5" barrel. The 1895M has an 18.5" barrel. These are less likely to develop maximum velocity than longer barrels. Still, it seems plausible that the LeveRevolution ammo will significantly outperform the old rounded-nose ammo, having superior ballistic characteristics.
