I was tring to figure out how the blue book works as far as serial #. I just bought my first blue book and was looking up a savage 99 for someone who asked a question on the forums and the book says serial # at year end.What does that mean. The first line under the 99 is 10,000----1899. Iam dont mean to sound dumb[:I], it just the first time I have tried to use a blue book and really want to learn. Please help me[:D] Oak

  They are saying essentially that during the year 1899 10,000 were produced and the last serial number issued that year was 9994 or what ever the number was. For 1900 the final number might be 21222, so if you have serial number 17842 you know yours was made in 1900. Note that when you get into the 99, there are no records past about 1952.
  
  Also note tht the Blue Book records are not necessarily really trustworthy on everything.
