Winchester Model 70
I just purchased a used winchester model 70 xtr sporter magnum in 7mm remington magnum and on the opposite side of these markings on the barrel is the word featherweight,the barrel is 24"long and is clean {no open sights]non of my other xtr sporters have this.The markings are crisp and bright and match the other rifles.any ideas?

My friend has a Mod. 70 in .270. It is a Bohler special made in 1955. I know Bohler is a steel manufacturer. Is the Bohler barrel the only thing that makes this gun "special"? It is in excellent condition. I have no pics but looking for a good ball park figure on what it might be worth. I am thinking about $1100.00 but can find no info on this particular rifle. 0 -

As Bert describes, pictures are a must for those of us who like to slobber on our keyboards while looking at old Winchester's and Colt's. There are directions of how to post photographs in a sticky at the top of the ask the experts forum. You will need a photohosting website.
If you were to auction it, don't put a buy it now on it as you would be handicapping yourself. I would start it at 599.00 with no reserve, should you decide to auction it.
If you are into the shooting sports at all, I am going to suggest you keep it. There will never be anymore, and it is a piece of where you came from...your grandpa, and your dad. You will forever preserve their legacy, especially if you hand it down. There are few things that escalate in value in this world as an investment....waterfront real estate, gold and diamonds, and old Winchester's and Colt's.

If you have not deduced from the above starting price is not an issue. You will get fair market value in a no reserve auction for this gun (with good description and pictures). It will bring multiple thousands of $$'S. With good photo's these guys will ballpark it pretty close for you. Follow their advice, and use the pictures they suggest(they will let you know if they are good enough/correct size/showing what is important). Run the action for at least 10 days, and end it on a weekend evening. You have a treasure of history, and I hope you contimplate all options before deciding what action to take with it. If you feel that it will bring more joy in another family than your own then please pass it on. 0 -
I know everyone has thier own idea but in my book it will not bring what its worth! think about what you are actually selling. out of all the guns made in the day your grandfather picked this one. he had to have an eye for a better made gun for there was a lot cheeper models available. even if you dont hunt or shoot the value of that gun will increase faster than cash will. and on top of that is there anyone else in the family that might oneday want to hunt/shoot? wouldent it be so sweet if you could say heres your great grandfathers rifle take good care of it! If you sell it you can never get IT back! even if you do get the rifle back its not the same! I have been able to tell my son those words and in my opinion they are priceless! JMHO! 0 -

If I had a harem of 50 beautiful women all 10+ in bed I would give them all away before I would sell a 70 in great shape with a triple digit serial number. 0 -
Don't do a buy it now!! Plus despite my loyality to Gunbroker,(I sell at lot of stuff) I wouldn't auction it here should you decide to auction it at all. For a low serial number like that, an auction house sepcializing in firearms would be the best bet. Too many serious collectors still don't use the internet.
