99f savage stock

i just picked up my new - old 99 f savage in 308 cal , at my local gun shop,mind you, i live in a small town in central oregon of 10000 people , and almost all of the used firearms here, come from original owners. i have not checked the serial nums yet so i dont know exact mfg. date, but it does have a brass rotary clip, so to the little knowledge that i have , this should put it into the early sixtys.the lady that owned it had the stock shortened,2 1/2 in , put the extra piece in the closet , and had it reatached when she sold it , you gotta trust me here, the gun is awesome except for the buttstock, whoever did the work was good , but it has a cuuuuut mark,i love the ammount of woodwork and the metal in this gun, plus the awesome pistol grip, question is ,what should, or can i do , if anything to make this right,thanks, rusobr2 quote: quote:i find in life ,that it is better to understand, then to be understood

    Nothing will restore it to original condition or collector value. If you can't stand looking at it have a new butt stock made for it and leave a note of time it was done and by whom in the stock. Keep the old stock to go with it if you sell it.

    Or replace it with a used 99 butt stock.

    Ditto what He Dog wrote. When I come along an item such as your, If I like it I like it. I dont care what others think. Its probably a one of a kind now and has a history. Make it yours. Enjoy, 99s are awesome.

    thanks , sage ,and he dog, and yes!!! i do like the gun, i'm going to leave it alone, as of this point it does have its own appearance, and i realy like it , my son says ,you bought because, you liked it ,and leave it at that, anyway , thanks guys for the tips, i realy enjoy this forum ,thanks, rusobr2
