barrel threading ?
I am thinking very hard about going through the process of getting a suppressor for my 10/22. I would like get my current barrel threaded I do not want to buy a new barrel. How much is a fair price for somebody to charge me for threading it. We only have one reputable gunsmith in driving distance and he tends to be very pricey.

I would pay what it takes for a legal job. Inexpensive could be construed as hastily done and cheap. A good job done, for a fair price may seem expensive at first; but be worth 10 fold in the long run.
Accept the price charged and hold the maker to good standards. That is the best one can ask for.0 -
as far as i know there is no legality questions to threading a barrel I would just like to know what a fair price range is so i dont get taken. 0 -

Have you considered removing the barrel & sending just the barrel to the manufacturer of the suppressor so it can be "factory installed"?
Either way you go, work will cost 'time plus material' & the suppressor maker will likely have several to do with one machime setup thus saving 'time' & you money.

there website says they will not. im guessing its because they sell barrels. I payed to much for my existing barrel not use mine though. 0 -
Ok. Lots of misinformation here.
Unless you live in a state with laws that restrict features (NY and CA come to mind) there is NO laws about threading. There is NO Federal law against threading.
Second just because something is expensive does not make it the best. If that was the case with barrel threading I would be broke. If I went to have my barrel threaded by either my local gunsmith I would pay 2x as much for something that he does sometimes. Not my idea of good. Many of the suppressor makes will thread your barrels but they are also very expensive but part of that is because they only do it one way. Usually the makers do very nice threading and include matching thread protectors (the expensive part).
I have a local guy do many of my inexpensive barrels that I can pull cause the price is right. I had a couple of nice guns that I did not want/was able to pull the barrels on I took to this guy, http://www.tornado-technologies.com/ . He is about a 4 hr drive for me but very worth it to me. His main job is to thread barrels for suppressors and he does an awsome job. He comes highly suggested on the NFA style gun boards. I have yet to see a single bad word on the guy. Nice thing is his prices are about 1/2 anywhere else I have found.
Not knocking the TI products but if you are serious about buying and getting into suppressors I would check out http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/ and do lots of reading.

Barrel threading at TT ($60 or was it $65), + $200 for tax stamp + price of suppressor = cost. Depending on suppressor they cost about $200-$450 for average ones.
If you are serious about suppressors you really need to read on forums/boards that talk about them a lot. GB is great for lots of things but is only ok when it comes to NFA toys.0 -
It's probably a good idea for the machinist to have the supressor for him to cut a close fitting thread. It should be a class 3
thread or maybe better.
As he wont have thread gages, the female thread should be on hand to ensure a good job.
You want a lathe cut thread, not a die cut thread.0
