Saiga 12 conversion

I would like to do a conversion on one of these, such as adding a telescoping or folding stock, AK style handguards, front sight, etc. to make it look more like an AK. I'm a little confused on the legalities here. What can and what can I not do with this shotgun to stay legal?

    anyone else have a horrible time with installing the axis pins for the trigger? I am installing a Tapco G2 and am having trouble with the trigger sitting cockeyed whenever I get the axis pin installed. When I have the trigger sitting correctly I end up fighting the pin for what seems like hours! I had it all together earlier but when I was going through the safety/fire tests and manually cocking the hammer, I noticed that the trigger didn't move enough to release the hammer. Thats when I noticed the trigger group was tipped foward. I took it all apart and have now been swearing at it for about 2 hours. HELP[?]

    hello. you have to replace with at least 11 us made parts if i remeber right. ive converted a couple of them. its easy work. you can get all the parts you need from tapco or here on gunbroker. remeber, that each part counts as one of the compliance parts. for instance, the usa magazine actually counts as 4 parts because of the mag body, the follower, the floor plate, and the spring. you also count each piece of the trigger, the pistol grip, the screw and nut count as one each, the trigger guard, the stock, the handguard, and so on. it really doesnt take long to add up the compliance parts.

    To do it legally you need to be 922r compliant. This means having the right number of US made parts to be legal.

    I have been interested in this same topic and have seen a few for sale on GB which have already been converted.

    Who are the reputable gunsmiths with experience converting these shotguns?

    I have a Tromix but he is WAY back ordered. I have heard good things about the Redjacket. I know there area couple more newer good ones out there too that should be listed on the Saiga Forums.

    Thanks, That is just what I am looking for[8D] Just checked out the Tromix site. Looks like a heck of a backlog since they are not currently accepting any more orders.[:(]
