Rust removal

I just picked up a couple of older progressive reloaders. One is a Star in 44mag and the other is a Size O Matic 800B in 12ga. They both have some rust on them that I would like to remove. Is there anything better than steel wool and gun oil. How about the Rust/ Blue remover I have seen in the gun cleaning products. Any help would be great.

    Got a Ruger No.1 and its got just the slightest hint of rust 'bout a quarter inch long and as wide as the thickness of a credit card and its right on the edge where the reciever meets the forend. Whats the best way to remove this or dissolve it w/o damaging the bluing?

    Kroil is the best I've found, if you can't find it localy, you can by it from www.Midway.com

    a good penetrating oil (not WD40) and very fine steel wool.

    Kroil and brass pot scrubber. gets my vote.

    Kroil is very good. Try soaking in Kroil, and CLOTH. Even very fine steel wool tends to thin out bluing. Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner also works very well.

    I have used Break Free and 0000 Bronze wool with good effect. AFTER you get the rust off, a coat of hard wax, like Trewax will go a long way toward retarding its return. Nothing will stop it beyond re-bluing, but the wax will help. Otis' Dry Lube is also good.

    Kerosene and fine steel wool used to be the standard method. Liquid wrench seems to be mostly kerosene and works good, too. Let it soak for a day and work on it a bit and then let it soak for another day, etc. Unfortunatly, if the rust comes off, so will some of the blue.

    i use pb blaster and steel wool to remove rust. the pb blaster i use for work also, on those hard rusted bolts that one just can't torch, it is not to often i can not save what i am working on!!!!

    I've heard that Blue Wonder works well, a friend told me he was very happy with the way it cleaned rust from blueing. I've tried applying Liquid Wrench to the light rust letting is sit for an hour and then rubbing the area with a penny, it worked well but left some copper streaks that i cleand back off with Hoppes Benchrest.
