I'd like to find out more about it, when it was made, if there are various models, what I've got, what it's worth based on condition, which is very very nice.

If you have a 1911 Type colt in 38 super and it has a four digit serial number 31xx Then you have a first year production pistol is 38 Super. and it is highly collectable and worth big bucks in good condition . on the other hand if it is a 38 acp then that is a horse of another color. either way we need closeup in focus pictures to even give you a WAG 0 -

The frame and numbering doesn't look correct for a late circa 1920's production Colt to me. I believe the frame to be a aftermarket product. Try putting a magnet on it to see if it is made of either steel or aluminum. A aftermarket 38 Super parts gun would have no collector value, and probably would be valued in the $300 to $500 range as a shooter, if functional. 0 -
I agree with Ruff - Snow does not look like the font or size of a 1929 Colt frame look very carefully at the frame left side where the front top of the trigger guard joins the frame does it have any letters or marks. ? Those grips on a real prewar Colt would be akin to a picture frame from wally world on the MONA-LISA[:(][xx(][:(!][V] 0 -
A Colt commercial pistol would not have "NO" in front of the serial number. Only military weapons are prefixed "NO". Pre-1969 commercial .45s had a "C" prefix and .38 Supers had no prefix at all.
Looks like the number is cut through anodizing. I agree it is likely an aftermarket aluminum frame built up into a parts gun. The slide looks like it came off a 1950s model.0
