Scope Mounting

I mounted a new Burris 4.5-14x42 scope with medium Leupold rings on a Rem. 700 stainless 25-06. My question is there is only about 1mm of clearance between the barrel and scope, I can slide about 3 $1 bills between them. Will the barrel ever expand enough to make it touch the scope, should I get higher rings?

    I'm replacing a scope on my Savage 110. The new scope is shorter that the other, so the rings don't line up with the mounts. But, I turned both mounts 180 degrees, to where they are fastened with 1 screw each and half of each mount hangs over the bolt. There is still enough clearance for the shells to be ejected properly. I think this will work, although I haven't shot it yet.(mounts & rings are Weaver)
    Is this suitable? Should I use a 1 piece mount instead?

    It won't work,1 screw in each will not hold tight enough.There are 2 holes in each base for a reason. You can buy offset bases to fit.

    Breir has it right. Unless you want the screws broken off in the receiver, or uless it is a very, very light recoiling caliber you never take in the woods, get the right off set bases. My advice would be get the Burris bases and use Burris Signature rings.

    You need a set of Weaver extension rings. They are made to address this type of problem.

    Welcome to the forum. By your description your new scope is not compatable with the action of your rifle, unless you change out some of the basic mounting components. Off hand it seems like you have a longer action and a compact type of scope. You can buy several types of expended rings and bases of assorted hieghts and materials to compensate for this. But. there are so many different combinattions possible that it would be very difficult to go into them. Leave it at the fact that the bases have to be true, square and securely attacted to the action or you have no chance at all of any reasonable form of repeatable accuracy out of the weapon. After that the rings have to fit both the bases and the scope, securely or else it is all for nought.......
