Reload info for 218 bee and hornet.
Can you guys give me some of your proven loads for a 22 hornet and a 218 bee. The gun i will be shooting for the hornet is a ruger 77/22. The bee is a tauras raging bee hand gun. Iwant to find some powders and primers. I have the cases and some small pistol primers. My reloading manual only show one reload for the bee and that was in the rifle manual. Any suggestions would be greatly appricated and welcomed. I want to hunt turkeys and coyotes with these rounds. Also I need a good bullet weight. I tried some vmax 35 grains out of the hornet(factory loads buy hornady) and they sucked. All over the place. I think they are too light. Oak

You might want to measure the twist rate of your rifle's barrel. If it is 1:12 or higher then you will want to go with lighter bullets. But as it is a more modern Ruger it could be less. If you are really lucky someone will weigh in who knows what that twist rate is. Bullets which are mismatched to the twist of a barrel will either not stabilize or over stabilize in flight. Neither is good for accuracy. I've got a old Stevens model 44 in 218bee with a bad barrel. I'm going to send it out and have a new barrel made for it, but I have not as yet decided what twist rate to spec for it. Good luck with yours........ 0 -
i have the same gun. accuracy was poor until i glass bedded the action, lightened the trigger and installed a new sear/spring kit. since then i'm quite pleased. it only likes light bullets, esp some 33 grain i got some years ago, or secondly 35 vmax you are using. likely due to twist as noted above. best advice i got was not to try to squeeze max velocity out of the hornet, let it be what it is. 10.5 of H110 was recommended in some article once and has worked well for me. another helpful article:

Both of my Hornets; a 77/22 and a Kimber 82 love Lil-Gun powder, small pistol primers and 40 Grain V-Max pills. Higher velocity at lower pressure has been claimed for Lil-Gun. Don't know if that's true or not, but accuracy is super. I ended up at 12.9 to 13.1 grains. You should start lower and work up.
All I did to my Ruger was trim 1 1/2 coils off of the trigger spring, install an overtravel screw (very easy to do) and bed the last inch of the stock for a little upward pressure. 5 shot, 100 yard groups average 5/8" from the bench on a no caffeine day.0 -
I HAVE 2 HORNETS, ONE LIKES THE HOR. 35 GN BULLET AND LIL-GUN, THE OTHER LIKES A.A.1680 AND THE HOR. 40GN. EACH GUN IS DIFFERENT SO HAVE FUN. 0 -
Definintely try Lil'Gun in th Hornet. With either 35 or 40 gr V-Max in my 77/22, it cut the group sizes in half. 0
