mounting pistol

I have a colt 1911 and want to keep it next to my bed at night for real quick access the only problem is I also have a 2 year old and 4 year old boys and there in to everything JUST LIKE THERE MOTHER [:D] ..I just want to keep my family safe. I want to know if there is a mounting kit or something anything out there I can hook to my night stand or bed that the boys cant get in to but I could in a fast hurry and wont broke the bank any help would be great thanks..

    They do have a small safe/lock box that uses your finger print to open. I never tried one so just know they are available.

    I also like the steel lock boxes that can be mounted on a wall in the closet. One size actually fits in a hole between studs, & you bolt it to the studs.

    You not only need to keeps the boys from getting to the gun, but you need to keep the burglars from stealing it (a far more likely possibility).

    If you are worried about someone breaking in while you are home, the best 1st line of defense is a professionally installed perimeter alarm system.

    Something's gotta give. Can't have it both ways.

    For night security, the gun should not be behind a barrier of any kind. (Such as a box, keypad lock/fingerprint pad lock, etc)

    For away from home, and during the daytime at home, the first paragraph [item in blue] should be adhered to.

    You will have to go to "immediate readiness condition" every night, and return to "locked safe condition" every morning.

    Diligence. If you can be diligent and do above without forgetting you're good to go. If not, then best to keep it locked in the boxes recommended in above posts, even at night, because the chances of forgetting, however slight, is an uncomfortable thought to live with (Read into this..I'm talking about an AD).

    Put a lock on your bedroom door. Hard for a kid to get into a locked room.

    Also makes it a bit harder for someone to bust into your room should you not hear someone make it into the house.

    you have to lock it up. wife will leave bedroom open, and then you might have a dead kid.
    that is not an ok risk

    The box that Spider shows is very fast; spring loaded door opens immediately. But it costs near $100 as I remember. WalMart sells a Brinks Home security box for ~$35. Five push button security, turn lock and your in. It slides under my night stand.

    Thank you all for the ideas I think I am on my way to wal mart blueskies
    that might be just what i am looking for ...I think having a unlocked gun around is a risk I cant take. My house does have a alarm on the doors but my room is wright next to the back door and if they get to my room before I can get to the gun cabinet then I am SOL and dont want to depend on the local police department for help ...I dont know if it is just me but I think criminals are getting more and more brave
