old WJ Jeffery,s &winchester1886
Iwill start with the jeffery,s got it from a 92 year old women that I did some work for not sure what it is.it has stamps of BV,BP,NP.all with crowns.has QS trademark. it is ingraved bolt action safty flips up on bolt,nichel gun barrelsteel.has gordite 42-300 max stamped also 335 EX one fixed rear sight with 4 flip ups.front sight has tube over it . I will post some pic when I figure how to the other gun is a winchester 1886 I bought last night for 500.00 itis in good shape for 108 years old it is a 40-82wcf[imghttp://s654.photobucket.com/albums/uu264/invisabill1958/][/img]can you tell me what they are worth

You have a wonderful Jeffery take down rifle. I couldn't see the forend in your photos. Is it still with the rifle? 0 -
W.J. Jeffery is a fine old British gunmaker and you got a nice example of their takedown rifle from the old lady. The various stamps are British proof marks. They are still in business, they might could tell you when it was made and even for whom.

335 EX does not ring a bell but 42 grains of Cordite and a 300 grain bullet sound right for the .333 Nitro Express, one of Jeffery's standard calibers. If so, it is a good hunting round but modern ammunition will be very expensive. Or a substantial handloading project.
I won't guess the dollar values. Asking prices for Jeffery express rifles on the net are very high and a working '86 Winchester is worth way more than $500.0 -

You have 2 very nice Items I hope Bert H will look at the Winchester pictures . I would say the model 1886 is worth many Thousands of dollars. But Bert and KIMI along with others like old colt will give you better Value.
Edit I just saw your last update post all I can say is you better go by a lottery ticket. You have already hit 2 Jack pots and you know what they say about good things coming in 3's [;)]0 -
No offense meant. I would be very careful regarding the Winchester. Nobody in their right minds would sell a 1886 in that condition for $500, unless they were complete idiots or it was hot. Hopefully you have a itemized BOS from the seller, to cover your butt if things start going south. 0 -

Well, I've never bought one of these 1886s, but I do like to view auctions and see what some of them list for or bring. Even with the pictures not being the quality they could be, I've seen pieces similiar to this one list for 12 to 15 thousand, assuming, of course that that it checks out as being all original, functions well, and has a very good+ bore. That's my WAG, Bert, O-C, and some others will be better able to appraise it.
I might add that the markings on the 86 are outstanding.0 -

I know the guy and father all my life gun has allways been in gun cab .no one hunted just sat there for years .his father just passed he did not want it around his kids. I did not know what it was He,s never shot a gun in his life . thats how I know it is not hot 0 -

Your Model 1886 is worth a minimum of 10X what you paid for it. It is one one of the very best original condition Sporting rifles I have ever seen[:0]. 0
