Winchester Model 88 gun stocks

I have two model 88 in cal. 308 and one in 243. the one in 243 had a walnut checkered stock with walnut design in it I've had bad luck with the 308 both stocks have cracked at the back of the action two many deer hunts i guess but I've been looking for replacement stocks for them but have not been able to find any.. this is where i need help i would like to get 2 stocks with the walnuts in them if any one knows where to find these??? or if you can even find them???

    Since the MD 88 experts are gearing up now, I have a related question. I have a MD 88 with a SN indicating manufacture about 1958. It has a stock with a cheek piece. Did Winchester ever offer the MD 88 with a cheek piece? See photo attached.

    No, to my knowlege a raised cheekpiece was never offered, and the stock in the photo is an aftermarket with custom checkering. ...Your first post says you want stocks with walnuts in them, Carved I guess??

    The M88 stocks with the "walnuts and leaves are the post 64 style stocks with impresseed checkering. The M88 stock in the picture looks to be Fajen custom wood due to the raised cheekpiece and the horn style pistol grip.

    You're going to find that this action along with the M100 have stress points or stress risers by the nature of the design that causes cracks or splits in the stock due to the way the grain runs. I've seen and fixed a few of these but you're better off switching stocks to a synthetic or laminate in order to save your good stock and still be able to shoot these rifles.

    Bob's Gun Shop in Royal, AR. has walnut stocks for the M88 rifles. I didn't see any with the impressed oak leaves but you can ask him. The last one of those that I saw was for sale privately through an internet sale.

    you got great answers to both question from all of the guys above.If you have any other question about you model 88's contact me via email and I can lead you to an expert on the model 88's He is always on Gb but I am not sure if I can mention him by name here. Oak

    Stocks for the model 88 are very hard to find. You didn't mention if the rifles were Cloverleaf tang.(pre'57) or round tang. There is a stock on GB now that is post '64 which would fit your guns unless they have the Cloverleaf tang....

    I'm not sure what you mean by Walnuts in them?
    If you are speaking of the design, they are oak leaves with acorns,which is post '64. There is one on this site at $205 as of today..
