Please help with shipping question:

SINDEY
I have a few auctions ending today, I cannot find a wayto ship a handgun reasonably, most listings have a flat rate of $20 to $25 for shipping, everytime I quote it on UPS or FEDEX websites, it comes up over $50.00. What am I doing wrong??
I can't charge someone that much for shipping, but I don't want to loose that much on it either.
Any help would be a great help.

    If you are not a ffl holder have your local dealer ship USPS Priorty flat rate. If you are a ffl holder you can ship handguns USPS for under $20.00

    You failed to do your research before you listed your guns; that is what you did wrong.

    A nonlicensee (that is, you) can only ship a handgun by UPS Next Day Air (or Next Day Airsaver), or by Fedex Priority Overnight. And, yes, that will usually cost > $50, including the mandatory Adult Signature Required. Your listing should have indicated this fact, & the requirement that the buyer pay actual shipping charges.

    Depending upon where you live, you might be able to find a local dealer willing to ship the guns for you by USPS. Must likely, by the time you pay his fee, you won't save much.

    What did you say the shipping charge would be in your listing, & who did you say would pay it? You may have to eat the excess charge on this batch of auctions.

    Last time I shipped at a UPS hub it was in the evening. Since they could not overnight it, being too late, they next day shipped it. This was about $35 vs $70. The overnight is a SHIPPERS rule NOT a law.

    Yup, BUT if you need an insurance claim, they will not pay unless you complied with their rule...

    In every ad, I state that I am not a dealer, these are my personal firearms and ths buyer is to pay actual shipping charges.

    You can give the buyer a choice then... IF their dealer will accept from you (non-FFL) then you will ship via UPS or FedEx at the high cost.

    If the receiving FFL won't accept directly from you, then you can xfer them to a FFL local to you (maybe a xfer fee?) and he/she can ship via USPS (cheap).

    If you want to offer this choice to your buyer, then find a local FFL now and find out what the xfer charge and estimated shipping would be.

    I can't believe you got someone to bid $131 on a used 9mm Hi Point! After they pay shipping and transfer fees, they will be over $200 for what is a $119 pistol brand new!
