Win mod 70 feeding problem

I recently took a short action Win Mod 70 (243 post 64) and had it rebarreled to 270WSM. Although this is a short action the mag box and bolt are full size. (bolt is same size as long action, mag box has spacer in the rear to fit shorter ammo). Now I have a problem with feeding from the mag box to the chamber. The bolt face is now opened and I can't go back to another cal. The loaded round not high enough for the bolt to feed into the chamber when loaded with one or three rounds. Anyone had any success with this problem and how to solve it? I have concidered opening up the rails on the action but I'm not sure this is solve my problem. Thanks in advace to anyone who can help.

    Your action is not a short action, it's a long action that has been modified to handle short action cartridges. But that doesn't mean that it will work for WSM cartridges without additional work and parts.

    My first question is who put the barrel on, cut the chamber and opened the bolt face without rectifying the final fit and feeding issues?

    The WSM cartridges are fatter in all diameters than the standard .243 Win. cartridge. Therefore the feeding geometry has to be different. Generally, there is a box made for the WSMs along with a properly designed follower. These are fitted into actions that have had the rails designed to control and feed the WSM cartridges. Without these features you need to get the appropriate parts and then have someone that understand the geometry, fit the rails.

    The Post-'64 bolt can be returned to a smaller bolt face with some careful work and a change of extractors. It takes someone who understand this type of work to get it done correctly.

    I agree with nononsense completely. I would contact the "gunsmith" who ever did the work and demand it be rectified at their expense. As a gunsmith I guarantee that it would NOT have left my shop inoperable.
