Looking to find some information on a Model 92 SRC Serial # 259xxx. Has the wording "Cuarto Militar del Presidente" stamped on the barrel.
Translates to - fourth soldier of the preesident - I think
20" barrel .44WCF

    WOW very interesting I hope Bert H and Kimi as well as others can shed some light on this The font style and execution looks like a roll stamp not hand engraved as in a one off type firearm.

    Looks like you have a Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine that I would estimate as being manufactured sometime around 1904-05 based on other 92's I've had lettered around this serial number range. Your Model 1892 falls into a serial number range that can be lettered by the Cody Firearms Museum Records Services, but it is doubtful that it would shed any light on the barrel marking.

    Based on the "Cuarto Militar del Presidente" marking it appears that your Model 1892 found its way south to Mexico or South America.

    according to online translaters it says Forth Military President however Cuarto could mean other things depending on sentence structure and the region it came from.

    My guess is that it went to Brazil. Your best bet is to letter it through the Cody Firearms Museum.

    I agree that the barrel marking looks like it was applied by Winchester, and if that is the case, it should be so noted in the original factory ledgers (and on the factory letter). My bet is that it will letter as being received in warehouse sometime in the early part of the year 1908. It is a nice looking Model 1892 SRC[:)].

    Rob that would be great if you update with information from your letter . I for one would love to know What records have to say. I guess you know that provenience when it comes to special markings on collector firearms is key to higher value. AND Factory provenience is the best there is.

    I believe in Spanish or Portuguese it translates as "Militry room of the President."
