Shotgun Shells

I read a forum on centerfire shells shelf life and was just wondering..does the same hold true for shotgun sheels? How long can they be stored and still be safe to shoot. Thanks.

    Does anyone know of any websites where you can buy inexpensive, bulk shotgun shells?

    hello. i dont see why not. if you keep the ammo in a dry place and out of the sun, it will last for many, many yrs. ive got some 762x54russian headstamped in the early 30s and all of it works great.

    If they are only 11 years old and have been stored in a climate controlled environment I see no reason to be concerned.

    If they were old paper shells or if they were swelled and difficult to chamber I would be concerned !!

    I have a number of boxes of slugs and buckshot from the 80's that I am still in the process of shooting up.

    As long as they were stored as you say, they could be 22yrs old and still be good. I have shot a lot of ammo from WWII that worked just fine.

    I recently fired some factory .45 ACP military ball from 1918 and it worked.

    I shot three Remington shells during dove season from a box that were
    approx 22 years old. The brass was "real brass" and all three shells
    split the brass all the way to the bottom. Will not shoot any more,
    and would not have shot all three shells had a flock of birds not flew
    over and I was using a semi-auto. The gun is a new Benelli, so I don't
    think it's the gun.

    i have some 30 years old. shoot em up!

    i bought some of remington's dove and pheasant loads; they also split the brass; i have only run into this with remington loads.

    i was always told aslong as the primers still look good then your good to go but if thay are croaded chuck them

    I have factory Winchester, Remington, and Federals as well as my Win AA reloads from the 80's I am shooting without problem.

    Main concern is go by Looks. Have shot much old ammo that shot just like new. Never shot the crappy looking stuff but even some of that would have probably been alright But I go by looks.
