Malfunctioning M1911A1

I recently acquired a Colt M1911A1 circa 1943, gun is in about an honest 60% condition. I was told it does not fire reliably, and it does not.

After the 1st or 2nd shot, the gun will lock into battery, but you cannot depress the trigger. It's locked up.
Round in chamber, hammer all the way back, grip safety depressed, it will not fire, the trigger will not move.

Any ideas on what is wrong, and how to rememdy the problem?

    Sounds like the disconnector or the three leaf spring is GUNKED up IF you know how to fully field strip down to every part I suggest you do so and do a complete cleaning and then try again . If the gun has been stored for a long time then the 3 leaf spring May be so rusted it has lost its spring , IF the pistol has belonged to someone that put on a lot of aftermarket parts then all bets are off.

    hello. are you sure that the slide safety isnt going up by itself from the recoil and putting the gun on safety. i say this because of the age of the gun, and i had a 1911 that did just that. the safety lever was so worn, that after the first shot, the recoil would flip it up. i would have to hold the safety down with my thumb to get the gun to work.

    it's all USGI, I'll strip and clean it (I know how), and if not , replace the parts you recommended.
