Ithaca Model 49 lever action

my deceased bro's...ser #308663...was wondering yr of mfg and monetary worth. won't/can't be more than the sentimental value, though. he even tried (at age 12) to epoxy glue the sights back on! residue remains.
single shot, lever action with "light" colored stock. maple?

    I had one of those years ago--was a good little gun--won our Scout troops' target shooting event with it. They were made from 1961-1978 and if it is still in decent condition you might get $150 to the right buyer. It's considered a Martini action.

    thanks so much for quick reply! have never heard of martini action (except for last sat on valentines day and the action was limited by aforementioned martini!)

    Your brother's gun was probably made in the mid-sixties give or take a few years either way. It is not a true lever action but a single shot as has already been mentioned. It looks at first glance to be a lever action but the magazine tube is fake. These were popular due to the Western movies and TV shows like Gunsmoke, the Rifleman, Bonanza, etc. They were marketed for young shooters, primarily ages 10-16 years. They were very safe guns, shot well and many appeared under Christmas Trees and around Birthday Cakes. Later on Ithaca tried to market a true lever action repeater called the Model 49R. It was a complete failure due to poor quality. Then they imported a lever action made in Germany by Erma. It was the Model 72 Saddlegun, a high quality product that eventually became today's Henry lever repeaters.
    Hang on to the M49. It is a great little gun and well worth shooting. As you mentioned, it has a lot of sentimental value, making it priceless.

    My two brothers and I learned to shoot with a 49, now my son shoots it. It's been in the family for at least forty years.
