mosin nagant...carcano question's.

I have 3 mosin nagant's. A 91/30, an M44 and a M 38. the problem is is that I have been bitten by the "mosin nagant" bug. They are very addictive.[:D] I have been looking for more M38's and M44's but cant seem to find one that is not all rusty. Question is this....Are the mosin's drying up? And second of all, I was curious about carcano's and steyr m95's. any info on eigther of these 2 gun's would be appriciated. such as accuracy and availability of ammo. Thank's everyone.

    The major gun magazines have all done extensive articles in all of these over the years and there's tons of info on the web. Hornady and prvi partizan both make Carcano ammunition (6.5mm, not the 7.35mm) and is easy to find (Cabela's, Graff & Sons, and Sportsman's Guide and more)sells for $20-25 a box. Original Carcano ammunition is about gone and probably should be collected if found and not shot. Ammunition for the Steyr 95 is easy to find but will be all military ball I think. Hope this helps.

    You might consider a Finn M39 Mosin too. Very nice, very accurate.

    The Carcano 6.5 is easy enough to buy new production ammo for, but for regular cheap shooting is a handloading proposition. Ditto on the M95.

    You need a Finnish M39. Regarded by many collectors, including me, as the best Mosin Nagant ever made.
    The Finns took Russian receivers and put new barrels, sights, and stocks on them.
    Barrels by Sako, Valmet, or Tikka.
    Adjustable front sights.

    Look at this beauty! You may be able to pick this jewel up for $180.
    VKT = Valmet. Generally the VKTs are the cheapest of the M39, but, they shoot just as well as the Sako or Tikka.

    According to one retailer I've seen, the Mosins actually are starting to dry up (particularly the carbine ones), though there are still zillions of them out there.

    Unfortunately, most of them have pitted/dark bores.

    Personally, I'd be more concerned about the cheap milsurp ammo drying up before the guns.
