Olmpic Arms AR?

I asked my friends son who's apparently a gunsmith by training and he said these are about the bottom of the barrel quality wise. I have a chance to pick one up. Should I pass and wait til I have the cash for a colt and risk the prices going even higher or grab this one and change out parts gradually til it's a different gun. I know it'll be more than the price of the colt in the long run but I can get this one now. And it's not a beater the rifle looks new>just came across a good deal-or did I?

    See if you can arrange a range run to test drive it. If it works good and is reasonably accurate then why not. The big thing I like about the AR series platform is it's flexability. Pop two pins and swap out the upper and you can go from a 16" weapon to a 24" varment rifle that fast. Personally I'd buy any milspec lower rifle over a colt any day....

    I have had 2 oly's and 1 colt. Never had a problem with any of them. The oly's were new and were more accurate than the colt.

    I've had no failures with 2 different Olympics. Very accurate and good quality. Their plinker model at first was made with cast lowers and might not show the same finish as a forged piece.

    I have one and i love mine. I would buy it again even at todays prices. The only problem i ever had was about 2 rounds out of 100 would not fire. But that was with wolf ammo. When i looked at the ammo the primer sits a little forward. It never miss fires with any other ammo.

    Buy it ! good value for the money,last time I knew you could buy them for $695 but that's before the election.Is it on par with Armalite,Bushmaster and Colt, no but it gets you in the game and you can always upgrade.Good luck with your purchase.

    Well you did not say what the price was so can not help as much.

    I have/had a couple OA including some older guns that were made before they were OA. I have not had any problems with them.

    My favorite AR is my OA 9mm with an integral suppressed upper that uses Glock mags.

    By the way-It's an ultra match. I looked it up and I paid a little less than what it's listed for on their web site, I's got a scope(not great) that I plan to replace>Any suggestions in that dept? And I know different rifles can have a favorite brand of ammo. Is this true of AR's? It's just never set right with my mind at the range when the guy next to me is shooting the cheapest ammo he could out of one of the most expensive gun's he could find. I'd like to start getting some ammo for it prior to getting the gun, just in case things do continue to go up. I'm not set up to reload yet(that's in the works) but should I just base my staring bullet selection on the rate of twist and pick a good factory round to start with?
