Indian 308 headstamps

I have a number of rounds of Indian 308. Rumor has it that some of it is good and some of it is not. I've been told that the OFV 75 headstamp is good, but I need information about the OFV 98 and OFV 02 headstamps. I have a lot of OFV 75, but would like ot know if the OFV 98 and OFV 02 headstamps are safe to fire in an FAL.

    hello. the early indian ammo is OK. it isnt match grade ammo by any means. its purely plinking ammo. you might have to re-adjust your gas system as i did on my fn-fal. you will notice some rds will be hotter than others. i WOULD NOT shoot the newer indian ammo. there are quite a few incedances of it blowing up guns. some say its from squib loads, others say from too much powder. either way its a crap shoot in your gun.

    Old stuff is OK, avoid the newer stuff.

    BTW - the old stuff is dirty, but OK to shoot. Will help to steal one of the wife's oven mitts and pull your gas plug while everything is still good and hot... much easier.

    I have shot quite a bit of the OFV 73, 74 and 75(30,000 or so). When I do my part it shoots as well or better than any Surplus 7.62x51 ammo out there.


    The newer stuff was supposed to be ground up for scrap, but an unscrupulous importer decided to sort it, repackage it and sell it as surplus.

    Be advised, the "KF" headstamped Indian ammo is corrosive primed.
