Iver Johnson - 32 cal. S&W
Hello,
My father-in-law was a Merchant Marine and his Iver Johnson (that he carried during his W.W.II service) was passed down to me.
On Top of barrel:
Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works, Fitchburg, Mass
(No other engravings on the side)
Serial No. Inside grip: H 281xx
The Chrome is 99% BRIGHT,there is slight wear mark on the inner edge of the butt.
As you can see I have the original box for the pistol. I was wondering what the value may be and the possible date of manufacture.

The value on those old top break revolvers isn't a lot, usually $150 is about top dollar. If you're asking for insurance purposes I would say tell them $250, not because that's the value but you would want to be well compensated if you lost a family heirloom.

the pictured revolver presents a slight mystery. the picture is of a second model safety automatic hammerless (1896-1908). in the second model the "H" letter code was used in 1903 on the small frame 32 S&W caliber hammerless models. this was during the black powder era for iver johnson revolvers.
in 1910/1911 the u.s. navy did purchase 1500 third models hammer versions in 38 S&W caliber for issue to navy tug boats but no information has turned up that any small frame hammerless second model were ever purchased by the u.s. government.
