Modern (ie non Mosin) bolt gun in 7.62x54r?

The other thread on .308 winchester vs 7.62x54R got me thinking about this.

Does anyone know of a modern bolt-action gun in 7.62x54R OTHER than the Mosin variants?

I'd imagine there must be some European civilian guns in this caliber, owing to its widespread popularity, but I don't think I've ever seen an American gun.

Anyone know of one? Winchester, Remington, Savage, etc?

I think it might be neat to have a more modern rifle than the Mosin in this caliber just to take advantage of the relatively cheap milsurp ammo for practice.

    saw a bunch of spanish mausers in that cal. in western auto a few years back. they had short barrels, almost carbine length.

    Hold on. Calm down. The 1895 is the box magazine lever action. Many sold to Russia some back here as surplus.
    The "Highwall" Single Shot is the model of 1885

    Not that they might not have made you a Single Shot in .30 Russian if you ordered it.


    Not to rain on your parade, but I doubt anybody is going to the trouble to make a new bolt action work with a rimmed cartridge with a lot of body taper just so you can shoot cheap crap commie surplus ammo.
    Same deal with the 7.62x25 Tokarev. Colt and Glock et al are not going to tool up for a round longer than their existing actions will handle just to help the Bulgarians sell ammunition.

    Your point about lack of demand is well taken, but its not like I'm actually *asking* anyone to do this for me!

    The 7.62x54R is popular enough in Russia and the Soviet bloc countries that I figured it was *possible* that civilian bolt guns were designed around the cartridge, that's all.

    Apparently the Russians use this round to hunt all sorts of big game, even Polar bear!

    I'd actually be a bit surprised to learn that CZ did NOT make such a gun at one point or another, for example. Though even if it (or some other manufacturer) did, that doesn't mean any of these guns were ever imported into the USA. Hence my question.

    Ultimately, sporterizing a Mosin Nagant is easy enough, if that's all I wanted to do.

    dang, he is right though, it would probably be tuff to find a gunsmith with the skills to turn a bolt to fit a round like that. I am also surprised CZ or somebody hasnt imported rifles in that chambering.

    Ok if you will take a single shot then how about contacting H&R about their handi rifle. Aren't they the ones that will make you up a second barrel for you rifle for a fairly reasonable price. I see they offer it in .308win mabe they will make one up in 7.62x54r for you? And as I'm writting this I'm starting to think that the Tokarev round might be fun in that package also......
