700 Rem Milspec 5R
I just purchased a new Milspec 5r. What would be the best way to break this gun in. I have heard several opinions on this ie: One shot, let barrel cool, clean barrel x 20.

There are varying opinions on barrel break in. Some say it is not necessary, some go through different rituals. I followed the recommendations of the makers of my aftermarket barrels. Your idea is about as good as any except that they clean easier when warm, take your cleaning gear to the range.
Start the sight in process at 100 yards, there are charts and computer ballistics to guide you in adjusting for longer range.
I would eventually zero at the yardage I intend to shoot at. If you will not be shooting at known distances, you are going to have to learn to determine the range and hold or adjust to suit.0
