Model 36 S&W .38 Chief Special

I have a S&W model 36 .38 Chief Special. Ingraved on the side is " The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". It has never been fired and I have a letter of authenticity from S&W. I also know it was distributed by Ellett Bros in 1989. Anyone have an idea what the value would be?

    Does the letter of authenticity indicate the gun left S&W with the inscription? If so, somewhere over $500. If not, it will be less. Can't say by how much. Joe

    There were many "special editions" ordered by distributors from S&W. With the exception of those from Lew Horton, they tend to sell within 10% +/- of the plain version of the same gun in similar condition.

    While firing can reduce the value of a special edition or commemorative, so can handling. Opening & closing the cylinder, cocking & lowering the hammer, & even wiping can lower the "condition" from "New In Box" to 99% or even less, depending upon how much this was done. Check the SOLD listing on GB to see what similar guns are selling for.

    Wow! I'd love to have that pistol. The Model 36 Cheif Special is actually the next gun I plan to purchase. I do not intend to shoot it, it will be a collector item. A plain version Model 36 will be the one I shoot ha.

    I am intending to sell this gun. I have no use for it and just wanted some perspective on what it is worth. S&W did not give me a value in their letter. Give me an email address and Ill send pics. Dan
