Cobra bought Republic Arms, along w/ their tooling. I have a Republic Arms .45 and it has been 100% reliable with ball ammo and any hollow points that have a round profile. It will not eat HPs that are not rounded, but I have more expensive guns that won't either. (IE: My Witness 10mm chokes on Corbon 150 grain HPs, but eats anything else I have tried in it.) When I carry it I use Corbon Powerball ammo. 0 -

If you must buy cheap, buy a Hi Point.

Funny you mention that, I was looking at those too. It seems people either love or hate the Hi-Point, there is no middle ground. I may buy one just to find out for myself.

Well I dont really care for Hi Point either, but atleast they go bang when they are supposed to. Their ergonomics, accuracy, and durability are questionable though.
For about a hundred more there are a lot of mil surp guns that would serve one better. The CZ 52 & 82, Makarovs, PA 63, S&W Model 10, ect all are heads and tails better.0 -
I don't know anything about Cobra but I have a number of handguns in 9mm including Springfield Armory, Ruger and S&W. I bought a Hi Point C9 on the recommendation of my nephew and it mostly worked well, slide didn't want to close well after about 50 rounds, sent it back, they repaired it and sent it back to me, no problems since. I've probably put about 500 rounds thru it. I also bought a C995 carbine, what a sweet fun gun to shoot (got both for 1 price on GB). You'd be surprised at the accuracy and energy even out to 100 yds. Great coyote gun with the right loads (Hornady xtp +p).

I bought a new 32 made by Cobra, very unreliable shooter out of the box. I did send it back to Cobra and they were prompt in effecting a repair and shipping it back to me, they even threw in a spare clip on the way back. However it still failed to perform reliably, when I would fire a shot it would eject the case as well as a live round then jamb, and sometimes the slide would not fully seat 'home'. I spent some time filing and polishing and modified the recoil spring until it would bench cycle reliably. I only put about 150 rounds through it before I sold it in favor of a Colt 1903 but after I modified it it did not skip a beat for those 150 rounds.
Spending the time fiddling with it was fun but left me questioning its long term reliability, when it did work correctly it was comfortable and accurate to shoot. If I remember correctly they have a lifetime warranty so in theory you could keep sending it back until it shot reliable if you got one like I did that had an issue.
I think I paid 130.00 for it a local gun shop who assured me it was a good shooter, yet 3 weeks after I bought it a wanted to trade it on a more expensive gun at the same shop , they offered me 30.00 for it while stating "those this are junk, there is no way we could even know if it shoots". I ended up selling it for close to what I had into it so that ended up OK.
The bottom line for me was their customer service was very good, but the product itself was not so good, I would not buy one for self defense.

If i had to recommend a cheap pistol to someone out of the ones listed i would go with hipoint. ya there ugly but they do go bang every time you pull the trigger. I had one once and used it mainly for a truck gun. not if you can afford to go with a used higher quality gun. 0 -
Go with a mil-surp gun. CZ 82 is a good choice. Don't care for the sight though. 0
