pitted bore

is it possable to re rifle or change out a bbl on a marlin 1894
Dad baught one a while back for 150 bucks and after I cleaned it up I saw a spot about 1/4 ways down which looks like a small pit in the rifling
I am going to test if on paper to see if its affecting if not then no worries but if so what I can I do to fix the problem.

    The rifling at the muzzle end of the barrel is the most important area. A rough or pitted spot in the area you mention should not affect the accuracy.

    The rifling at the muzzle end of the barrel is the most important area. A rough or pitted spot in the area you mention should not affect the accuracy.

    sorry i ment about a 1//4 down from the tip maybe a littl futher then that but not much its not to bad Ill post my findings in a day or about the accuracy in a day or two
    and the rest of it is crisp

    My opinion based on what's posted is that there's no adverse effects; in fact I looked down the barrel of a 1873 Trapdoor today. I've fired this rifle about a dozen times or so and witnessed it's accuracy in the hands of others, too

    With the original sights that thing is easily as accurate as my 1944 M1, and the bore in that M1 rifle is spotless.

    The 1873 has a fair bit of light pitting in the bore, but really nice rifling overall

    I have some milsurp guns with real sewer pipe bores. If the muzzle is good then it will probably still shoot pretty well. One pit surely won't be a problem.

    That said if it is something you want to undertake, rebarreling can of course be done, but you'd need a smith to do it; re-rifling would also require re-chambering. Also possible but quite expensive.
