Paint Removal

Hi, I am looking to strip paint of off the receiver and barrel for a Savage 24VA that I picked up. It is already worn in some areas and I can see good bluing underneath on the barrel and clear case colorings on the receiver. My understanding is paint stripper will not hurt the bluing, is that right? What about the case colorings?

This has potential to be a nice little find and I figured I would ask for others experience before I head into uncharted waters.

    Recently picked up a Colt Frontier Scout 22lr, somebody painted the horse emblem on the grips white. It has faded a little so I don't think it was done in the last few years, this is a 1961 model. Is there a way to possible remove the paint safely without screwing up the black grips ? The paint appears to be an enamel, tried flaking some of it off but did not work to well. Don't want to screw up the grips, would prefer they be original but can live with the bubba ornaments if I have to. This is not going to be a safe queen, but it's not a beater either. Any suggestions ?

    Try a very small amount of Goof-Off applied with a Q-tip. Check paint aisle at Home Depot, Lowes.

    Only one.

    Before you try removing this paint with some kind of solvent (eg paint thinner, goof-off, whatever), take off the grips and test the solvent on an inconpicuous area on the INSIDE of the grip with a Q-tip to make sure that the solvent doesn't hurt the grip finish/material.
