Phoenix HP22 takedown lever

I feel completely stupid asking for help -- guess it's a good thing I have no pride.[:D]

I just bought an HP22 for plinking and haven't been able to swap out the barrels because I can't push the takedown lever forward. I've double and tripled-checked all the safeties, re-read the directions and am pretty sure everything is set correctly for it to move.

It will NOT BUDGE, even with as much force as I can apply with a piece of plastic on both sides at the same time (didn't want to scratch the frame).

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't it be fairly easy to move forward? I can't believe I'm that much of a weakling. Tried calling Phoenix Arms, no answer, no website, no email.

Am I missing some critical instruction here?

    Sold mine a while back, but I think you have to push on both sides at once. Think I saw the manual, if I can find it tonight I'll take it to work and scan/post the relevant stuff.

    Yeah, I tried pushing forward, down and forward, up and forward, on both sides -- no luck. Gloves didn't make a difference either.

    Maybe I *am* too weak! [:(]

    Short of grabbing a pair of pliers, I'm not sure how else to get enough leverage to make it move.

    try pushing the barrel bakwards to relieve pressure on the button. i had one about 11 years ago.
    my short barrel would come off,but the long barrel didnt fit.
    so i took it back to the dealer and with a file he got it to work.
    my point is with this gun nothing is ever easy by the way mine hated being dirty at about 60 or more rounds it would jam fail to fire fail to eject it just hated being dirty.

    I JUST GOT MINE OUT AND TRIED IT-THIS MIGHT BE OBVIOUS BUT ARE YOU TRYING TO MOVE IT WITH THE ACTION OPEN? IT ONLY MOVES WITH ACTION CLOSED THEN WHILE YOU HOLD IT FORWARD MOVE ACTION BACK A BIT AND LIFT UP ON BARREL

    Didn't see where you ever got a direct answer. So, see if this works for you:
    1.) Point gun in a safe direction
    2.) Remove magazine/clip from the gun
    3.) Make sure chamber is empty
    4.) MAKE DAMN SURE IT IS EMPTY
    5.) Cock the hammer back (to relieve pressure on slide)
    6.) Hold the pistol with your right hand, kind of flat or sidewideways so that the end of the grip (magazine hole) is pressed lightly against your stomach.
    7.) Using your right thumb and index finger, while holding the grip with your other fingers, pull the slide back about 1/4" to 1/2" or so and hold it in that position.
    8.) With your left hand, actually thumb and forefinger, pull the release latch forward all the way it will go.
    9.) The barrel will "tip up" and practically fall out.
    10.) when you release the slide, it too will practically fall off the frame.

    SAFETY NOTE: The main spring is a coil right under the barrel, and it is not held in place very much once the barrel starts coming off the frame. Be careful of "flying spring"...you don't want to lose the spring, or an eyeball. Wear Eye Protection.
