Trying to value & date Browning auto 5

I am trying to figure out how old my gun is and what its value is. I have a friend who is interested in it

Serial #25XXX it has a 3G printed ABOVE the serial #

If I go by Brownings site, its predates 1939, is that correct???

its in pretty good shape, but definetely seen lots of deer hunting

I have pictures, just not sure how to post them on here

    Sounds like a 1963 Light Twelve. One that has "definitely seen lots of deer hunting" is probably in the $400 range. If you could post pictures folks on this forum can give you a very accurate value. Welcome to the forum.

    Definitely a 1963 vintage Light Twelve. $450 - $500 with the extra barrel.

    As you say it is well used but it hasn't been abused. Looks like normal hunting wear. Good news is the stock hasn't been cut and it doesn't look like the forearm is cracked (can't be sure from the pictures though). The slug barrel is worth $200+ or so by itself. Are the barrels both Belgian? It will be stamped on them; either Beglium or Japan. Also the choke of the VR barrel can add value if one of the open ones; you'll find a symbol on the barrel; * for full, ** for modified -** for improved cylinder. There are others but those are the likely ones. If both barrels are Belgian, and the VR barrel is ** or -** the value for the gun with both barrels is probably in the $700 to $800 range. Nice gun.
    Bert, I did see the gouge and agree that's not great. I might be a little high but the two barrels alone could go for $500 for the pair if Belgian and if the VR is improved cylinder.

    Did you miss the big gouge on the underside of the pistol grip?

    No cracks in any of the wood. It just shows hunting wear. I does need to be oiled, been sitting in the case for over 12 years.

    Both barrels are Belgian. I see the **Special on the extra barrel.

    X-tra barrel is worth 2-250. Gun with slug barrel hard to sell without an extra barrel. Total realistic money.. No less than $650 total. I would keep it. Better than any gun made today.

    I just remembered I have the Original owners manual too!

    Not sure if that helps with value.
