Marlin 39A feed jam

I just posted this reply on the 'Marlin 39A' thread and then read the notification that posts are locked after 10 postings: "Why posts are locked." This was the 10th post.

I believe I have the same jamming problem with my Marlin 39A as was stated by longspur rider's post. I had the rifle professionally cleaned and the gunsmith said he cycled ~50 rounds through without any problems. I found that the first 50 rounds cycled fine during shooting, but then it started jamming again. It jams about every other time (and I have used other ammo). I need to release the tension from the `magazine rod spring' to un-jam, then reapply pressure for proper feed. Is the guide spring responsible for this as well?

Also I am not a gunsmith, can I replace this spring easily if needed?

    I just replied to your request in the other post you said was locked go take a look at the eleventh post, I think I may have solved your problem.

    Thanks for the advice. I have not dismantled the rifle before and looking at the schematics, it looks rather complicated. See diagram. Do the two halves easily separate upon removing the thumb screw? Does the stock need to be removed first? In other words, am I going to get myself in trouble?

    No you'll not get in trouble, and you do not need to remove the stock.
    The guide spring is easy to replace if it comes down to that...
    Be sure to cock the hammer back 2 clicks before trying to separate it,
    and make sure it still back there when you put it back together.....
