Mossberg 464
Has anyone shot a 464? If so, what were the positives and the negatives? Would you buy one again?

How close of a copy is the Mossberg 464 of the Winchester 94? 0 -
Fourth Horseman,
I have seen one, in person, and the 464 is very easy to mistake for a Winchester 94, from a distance. Up close, it still looks a good bit like the 94.
In reality, it is more like a hybrid of at least two leverguns:
The Winchester 94 & the Marlin 336. It is also different enough that it is not like either of them.
The action is an open-top type, like the 94, but has points to mount scope bases, like the 336 has. I think the 464 also is an "Angle Eject", like the recent 94s.
The breechbolt is round, like the 336's, but its lockup is more positive.
The stock is held to the receiver, via what most people call a "through-bolt", like a lot of shotguns.
Gunblast reviewed it:

The Mossberg has its "guts" coming out of the bottom of the receiver, ala the 94. Here is a shot from Gunblast's SHOT Show 2008 page, near the bottom of the page, which shows some of what I have mentioned:

Search Paco Kelly's Leverguns.com, and you will find some talk about them:

Some of those forum members talk about their new 464s having seriously flawed extractors. The replacement parts appear to correct this problem. Also, some people do not think the 464 is all that it could be. Some hope that Mossberg will improve it, and Mossberg is supposed to be putting out many new calibers & options. The .22LR version is due later this year. It is really not the same gun as the centerfire version, but bears a passing resemblence.0 -
Thanks BigLoop22! All very helpful info. I appreciate it. 0
