Mauser P 38 Question
I have a Mauser P 38, This is marked byf43 and numbered on the slide & Frame, but no numbering on the barrel or block. However both the barrel and the block have the proof marks. Is this common? I was not very clear, not marked mauser and has Waffenamph Marks on the barrel and block.

byf is the 'S' Code for Mauserwerk K.-G., Oberndorf a.N...Looking at the Japanese Markings won't help You a bit...Waffenamph Marks are the Acceptance mark issued to all German War Time Production...The name Mauser will not be found on Military equipment used or made during the 2'nd World War... 0 -

Hi there
Here's a great website for P.38s:

byf43 is a very common variation. If not numbered to your frame, it is not original. Without knowing what proof marks the barrel and locking block have, it is impossible to determine what vintage, or even what manufacturer they are.0
