Is a Golani Bayonet Lug Available?
Where could I find a Golani/Galil 5.56/.223 caliber gas block with a bayonet lug attached? The gun I bought didn't come with a lug. Would it be practicle to retrofit the gun with another gas block if I could find one with a bayonet attachment? What might be involved? Any other suggestions (other than sell it)?

well i know from experience it can be a real pain ... i have the same thing happen to me with a post ban ak rifle ... the only way i could to get the gas block off was to pain stakingly walk it off slowly .you will also be messing up the barrel and the rifle will have, to be reblued ,on the barrel, but hey im not a gunsmith, but i had one reinstall the block with the bayonet lug , now some other options might be to weld it so a bayoney will fit if the rifle has the lugs that have been ground off because i have also had this done on some post ban ak rifles , im not familiar with the golani rifles so i cant tell you much about them 0 -

Hello Guys I read this post with interest. Please be nice in your answer to me I am a old f*** and out of touch with popular guns of today but WHY would anyone want to put a Bayonet lug on a rifle that does not have one . I know if it came with one like a G.I. WW II rifle and then it was removed you might want to restore to configuration of original issue but I am at lost on why you would want a Bayonet mounted on todays type of rifle.unless you were in the military and subject to hand to hand combat. Perry the Galil was built in a few different models from the factory. Some had lugs and some did not.
I have a IMI Galil ARM that does not come with a lug nor would I add one since it original. Now if a person is trying to build a model I could see wanting one. The only problem with the Galil bayonet is the last one I saw sell was over $200.
Just to add one for because, I have no idea why either. While if I bought a new AR-15, with a standard front gas block, I would want a lug just because they "belong" there. Would I take the time and money to replace one, probably not even though it would cost very little.0 -
Bayonet lug models are available from Classic arms and JG sales for another $30 over the base model price (which is around $600, IIRC).
You could contact Century arms and see if they have the part.
Also, Blackthorne industries carries some used Galil parts and may have this as well.
As to the point of having one, supposedly, you can fit a standard M16 bayonet onto the Galil, though I have my doubts about whether or not it will actually clear the flash suppressor.
Edit: Yup, standard Vietnam issue M16 type M4 bayonet snaps right into place. Saw it with my own eyes on a CAI "Golani" repro at the range last week.
Unfortunately the gun itself, while awesome LOOKING, didn't work so well. Jammed around every tenth round. Caveat Emptor
Still, I'd pay another $30 for one. Probably never actually fix a bayonet, but its a potentially "bannable" feature, so it could add value to the gun later. More important, you can attach OTHER things to the bayonet mount (eg a light or bipod) so these are potentially useful in other ways.0 -
Perhaps in the near future it would be best NOT to have a hideous bayonet attachment capability anyway. It would just be another excuse for it to be banned and/or registered. We all know how many crooks use bayonets. 0 -

I doubt that gun registration/banning is going to be based on a bayonet lug. As you say, bayonet crimes are essentially non-existent. (I'd actually be surprised to learn that ANY crime was committed with a fixed bayonet in the USA in the last five years, for example).
If history is any guide, the next ban will be prospective. Uncle Sam isn't going to come and take your gun away, or likely even make you register it, he'll just ban new ones with a given set of features.
In that scenario (which is how the Clinton gun ban was), a pre-ban gun with a bayonet lug would make the gun more valuable, as would any "preban" feature.
But getting back to reality, if you have a bayonet lug and don't like it (or if it changed the legal status of your gun), you could always grind it off. That's relatively easy.
Its putting one on a gun that doesn't have one that's difficult.0
