Identify this gun
Friend gave this to me some time ago to fix up. It was badly rusted, and had spiderwebs inside. I took the advice on here and scrubbed it down with some oil and steel wool, then I cleaned it thoroughly. I took it apart almost completely, which was pretty easy to do considering I never saw this gun before. Now it is silky smooth and all the rust is gone. But I have no idea what this gun is or how I can test it to see if it works. It seems to work fine as the cylinder rotates every time I pull the trigger, but how can I test it other than that? I have current pictures coming up. By cleaning I uncovered words which I could not see with the rust.
At the top of the grips you can see H&A. On top of the barrel it says

The numbers are a little fuzzy at the end, it might be 1906 or somewheres around there. It holds 5 rounds. Can't find the caliber anywhere, but I'm thinking .32 something?
As for condition, I'm guessing fair to poor. It's really badly pitted everywhere. Any idea of price?
She was wanting it to be cleaned up to shoot, I told her she should just keep it and leave it alone as it probably isn't worth much and probably isn't safe to shoot.

looks like an old fashioned h&a top break. most likely a 32 s&w gun. how many rounds does it hold? 5 or 6?
btw...it looks loaded. i see brass in the back of the cyl. fyi....0 -

It is top break, and holds 5. It can't be loaded cause I don't have any .32 type ammo that I could try to put in.0 -

it is a hopkins & allen safety police model (1910-1917). values are a little less than a H&R of the same era and a lot less than a iver johnson of the same era. the automatic extractor does not work because the arm projecting from the front of the hinge should be inside the barrel lug area. the H&A safety police model is the only H&A top break that might be safe with smokeless ammo, but it the condition shown probably should not be fired. the correct patent date is 1906.

Sure looks loaded to me too, but if you pulled the trigger and the cylinder rotated I guess if it was loaded you would know about it... I for one would frown on shooting it......
