I would like to know how good the cz-97 and cz-83 are for accuracy and reliability. 0 -
CZ are great guns and several to chose from, I like the 75 BD and the P01 and one of the best bang for the buck. The SP 01 is hot now and doing good. The P 01 just underwent NATO trials and passed with flying colors and is the only one or close to the only one passing currently.[:D][:p][:0][img][/img]

NATO Torture test passed by the P-01 Lead [-]
(From CZ press release pertaining to P-01 passing NATO compliance)
...
The pistol was required to pass a wide variety of tests:
The police required that the pistol ensure the highest level of comfort, an extended slide release was added as well as an extended magazine release and the trigger was reshaped to give a more consistent pull throughout the trigger stroke.
The pistol must be 100% reliable in extreme conditions, the following is a list of some of the minimum requirements.
Must be able to complete the following without failure:
4000 dry firings
3000 De-cockings
Operator level disassembly 1350 times with out ware or damage to components.
Complete disassembly 150 times, this is all the way down, pins, springs etc.
100% interchangability, any number of pistols randomly selected, disassembled, parts mixed and reassembled with no failures of any kind including loss of accuracy.
Safety requirements:
Drop test
1.5 meter (4.9) drop test, this is done 54 times with the pistol loaded (blank) and the hammer cocked. Dropping the pistol on the butt, the muzzle, back of the slide, sides of the gun, top of the slide, in essence, any angle that you could drop the gun from. This is done on concrete and 0 failures are allowed! A failure is the gun firing.
3meter drop (9.8) 5 times with the pistol loaded (blank) and the hammer cocked, This is done on concrete and 0 failures are allowed! A failure is the gun firing.
After these tests are complete the gun must fire without service.
The factory contracted an independent lab to do additional testing on guns that previously passed the drop tests. These pistol were dropped an additional 352 times without failure.
The pistol must also complete an environmental conditions test:
This means cold, heat, dust/sand and mud.
The pistol must fire after being frozen for 24 hours at 35C (-36F).
The pistol must fire after being heated for 24 hours at 70C (126F)
The pistol must fire after being submerged in mud, sand and combinations including being stripped of oil then completing the sand and mud tests again.
Service life:
The service life requirement from the Czech police was 15,000 rounds of +P ammo!
The pistol will exceed 30,000 rounds with ball 9mm.
Reliability:
The reliability requirements for the P-01 pistol are 99.8%, thats a .2% failure rate.
This equals 20 stoppages in 10,000 rounds or 500 Mean Rounds Between Failure (MRBF)
During testing, the average number of stoppages was only 7 per 15,000 rounds fired, this is a .05% failure rate, a MRBF rate of 2142 rounds! Over 4 time the minimum acceptable requirement.
The U.S. Army MRBF requirement is 495 rounds for 9mm pistols with 115 grain Ball ammunition.0 -
jeez fshfndr>ask and you shall recieve. Thanks alot I will pass this along to him. Who knows maybe I'll like it and have to have one of those too.>Chris 0 -
I'm another big fan of CZ's! 0 -
I recently bought a CZ75BD in 9mm Luger and have put at least 500 rounds throught so far and it has not had a stopage or failed in any way yet and all I've ever done to it is basic break down for normal cleaning. It is one of the most pleasant and accurate shooters I've ever fired. I shoot whatever factory ball 9mm Luger ammo they happen to have on sale at the range for practice but I've also shot at least 100 rounds of Winchester 115gr hollow points through it to make sure it works with a decent self defense ammo and it's not failed to feed, extract, eject, load and fire yet. Right now I am using it as my primary home defense gun and at $500 new in box, I consider it one of the best gun buys I've purchased. 0 -
one2hutn,
I love my CZ 40P in .40 cal. It's like driving a sports car to a cadillac on mountain curves when comparing it to my 1911 .45. It was actually a production run of the prototype for the P-01. As fshfndr describes some of the changes that enhanced the prototype into the P-01 such as extended mag and slide release. FWIW, the P-06 is even better.
I think it's Angus Hobdell who shoots for team CZ or CZ-USA. He uses a pretty close to stock model 75 (tactical{?}, $950). And, he's won a lot.0 -
Col. Jeff Cooper, a famous man in the world of hand gunning called the CZ75 the best double action 9mm made. For a man who was a 1911 man, that is a profound statement. 0 -
Once again, thanks to all for the feedback. I put in a call to the brother in law and he's been here to read this thread. Who knows maybe I can draw him into the flock yet. 0 -
If he is looking for a cheaper version, but still a great gun, the EAA Witness is a fine gun. 0 -
I have a PO1 and would recommend it to anyone!

CZ is a well-established Czech gunmaker that goes back at least 70 years.
The CZ-75 series pistols are considered among the world's best double-action service style pistols, and these guns (or variants) are standard issue pistols for police and military in many parts of the world.
They are strong as heck (all steel, have fully supported chambers), extremely accurate (slide-inside-frame design increases accuracy), reliable, and ergonomic (the grip design has been widely copied).
I'd take one of these over a Beretta, or Smith auto, any day.
There are differences between the earlier and later versions, and between given models, but you pretty much can't go wrong with any of them.

The CZ's are awesome pistols, and are somewhat the standard of which others are judged by on the other side of the pond. Tanfoglio makes a good version of it, and it is imported by European American Armoury, and it is called the Witness. They too have had many rave reviews, and you can get conversion kits to go from anything to anything almost. 22LR to 10MM, and 45 ACP and many in between. They are somewhat less expensive also.
