ar15 multi tool
i recently ordered a single point sling for my ar. i already have the attachment point on my gun from the factory but i need to loosen the nut that looks like a sprocket on the stock to adjust it to a usable position. i just lost my job so i'm on a budget of next to nothing and $30 for a multi tool is a little out of my price range right now. can anybody suggest another way to loosen the nut? or a place with a better price on the multi tool? thanks in advance for all your help. again.

Well you dont need a "multitool" to remove the stock, just a stock tool. I am not sure what they cost now but last time I got some they were $2 each. I am sure you can find one for under $5 most places. Here is one, http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=218355
It is a little piece of flat metal that has a spanner wrench on one side and usually a 1911 barrel bushing wrench on the other. This thing is super lightweight and is ment for only a few uses, it is NOT a heavy duty tool to keep on your bench for often use or super tight nuts, or staked nuts. It will NOT work for that.0 -
definately get and use the proper tool,i saw a buddy wreck his buffer tube using a household tool, turns out the nut was staked. 0 -
IF you are careful you can use a center punch (or similar object) and hammer to loosen and tighten the nut. Go easy and make sure that you contact the notch where it won't mar the edge. If you can afford the cheap stock tool that is the best way but the above will work in a pinch. 0 -
ok guys thanks for the help. my roommate is a mechanic so he's gonna look for a spanner wrench of the correct size at work. if not, i can handle a couple bucks for one. 0
