colt 1847 reproduction question

hello, been looking at a 1847 colt texas rangers model black powder reproduction that someone has to sell. has a wood presetation box. also comes with a colt logoed belt buckle. gun is unfired. has a engraving of texas rangers riding horse back on cylinder. box has a texas flag and 1847 on the lower left hand quarter. inside of box has a bluish purple lining with a large gold colt medalion. gun is only marked, sam colt new york city. what i need to know is, did colt make this gun? or did uberti or similiar company make it for colt? ive only seen pics of this gun. guy says that there are no import marks on it. also , anyone know of the value. any help would be appreciated.

    That would be a .44 caliber Colt "Walker" model. If it's a "Second Generation" model made in the 1970's, they usually bring about $750-$850. If it's a "Third Generation" model made in the last 1990's to early 2000's, figure around $500-$600. Third Generation models have the signature of "SAM COLT" down the backstrap so are also referred to as the "Signature Series".

    If there are no import marks, it was assembled in the States from mostly Italian made parts. Years back I had a 51 Navy and a 44 Dragoon. Check the on-line auctions, the common ones ( not presentation cased ) are sold regularly. As with all commemoratives it has to be untouched, unhandled, NIB+++, to maintain value. I've seen the folks who collect this kind of stuff go over them with a magnifying glass, while holding them with gloves on.

    spider, it is a colt walker. not sure about generation. i can get it for 300 bucks. same man also has a third generation dragoon that i can get for $200. maybe i should go for it? and thanks for the info.

    I would definitely grab them at that price. Just make sure they're Colts and not Italian replicas.

    They'll be stamped with Sam Colt's name & address on top of the barrel, and "Colt's Patent" on the cylinder and on left side of the frame. They also will not have any foreign proofmarks.

    Grab them both If they're marked Colt.
    Italian reproductions cannot be marked Colt unless assembled and finished in the US.
    It's assumed they are both in good condition.
