1911 magazines feeding problem
I have encountered feeding problems with some 1911 magazines. The problem is when the mag is loaded with five rounds for match, using lead or jacketed semi wad cutters, the fifth round fails to feed properly causing a jam-up. The mag in question is marked RIA magazine assy. US 45 cal ACP on the base. These magz handle 230 grain ball ammo ok. I have a ten round mag made by Meg-Gar of Italy and it is flawless. Can't have hang ups during a match or especially in a life of death situation. I just may scrap these mags and go to the Meg-gar makes. Any input from you 1911 shooters?

Mec-Gar makes magazines for several factories including Beretta and SIG I believe. They offer a great product, however, for the 1911 the only magazine I use is the Wilson Combat. I've never found a magazine that operates as flawlessly in the 1911 as the Wilson. They should run $25-30 a piece and are available in 7,8 or 10 round sizes. 0 -
Ditto on the Wilson mags...
You can play with the springs, lips and followers if you wish...But the Wilson mags are the best..

Try some Cheap GI contract mags.
If they don't work buy some Wilson combat Mags.
Guess I'm lucky as my 1911 has never, ever, failed to feed.0 -
The semi wadcutter nose has to be at a different angle to feed correctly then a 230 grain Ball round. The top rounds will feed because they are being pushed up by the round below it However the flat follower will not push up the same way on the final cartridge. Get high quality Magazines with a round top follower. 0 -
Thanks guys. I appreciate your input. Wilson it is. 0 -
I shoot chip mcormik power mags. Wilson mags second. And if the mag malfunctions on the very last round, it could be the spring or the follower, but being a RIA stock mag, I'd throw it away. 0
