I've heard of the 6mm PPC yes. No experience with it though. So all I can do is verify that it was probably marked correctly, as that is a possible one. I believe it is a varminter cartridge.

6 PPC is the 6mm Pindell Palmisano Cartridge. Designed by those two guys for benchrest competition, it is wonderfully accurate in a good rifle.

You saw a gunsmith rebarrel, Remington does not make 6 PPC rifles, they have their own competing cartridge, the 6 BR. Ammunition is largely if not entirely a handloading proposition.

I've heard of this round as well, but have never seen it. My thinking is the round is for some bench-rest competitions,as the rounds and guns are mostly handbuilt. If nothing else it'd be a great addition to a collection of unique firearms.Try contacting Remington with the info you have and maybe someone there can i.d it for you.

Based on the 7.62x39 case. Very accurate cartridge.

YEP, HAWK nailed it. The 6mm palmisano/pindell cartridge was developed by a couple of serious benchrest shooters and very inteligent men. It was, for a long time, the ONLY chambering to be shooting in close range benchrest competitions. VERY ACCURATE chambering in a good barrel.

Sako used to offer the 6PPC and 22PPC as chamberings in their rifles. I do not know if they still do, but several shooters commented on the accuracy of the rifles.

These guys are dead on as usual. The 6mm PPC was the end-all, be-all in benchrest for a while. Very accurate and consistant with the right set-up and you'll still find them on the auction side if you search "benchrest".

These days the 6PPC is based on the 220 Russian case...
Don't EVER get in a shoot off against one [:D]

There is also a 22 PPC. I have never seen one or fired one.
