Both are good guns. Personally I'd go with the K31 as most are in better shape and I find mine is more accurate. Plus a lot more Enfields were made, the K31s are already drying up. Not that you see many enfields from dealers anymore, but they'll be an easier, cheaper buy down the road on auction or at a show.

Just a quick thought- I put 5 shots in the X ring- all touching- with a group size of .3"- yes that's 3/10 of an inch- at 50 yards with the K31 this weekend. Much as I like my Enfield, it would never shoot that well.

I'd buy the Swiss Army Rifle (K31) Exceptional quality at a great price. It would probably cost around $1,000 or more to make one today. They are great shooters as well. I'd add an Enfield later as they are much easier to find.

on top of the accuracy, the chance of finding a identity tag under the k31 butt plate would be cool

Personally I'd go for a Mauser 98 of some sort. If, that is, you can find one in good shootable condition for not much more money then the other two. For quite a while there have been arsenal refinished Yugo 24/47s around for reasonable money. The one I picked up was damm near in new condition, inside and out. Good luck with which ever one you get.....

Don't know about the k31, but the Enfield No. 4 Mk 1 is a really fun shoot. I started handloading .303british just for mine. I got the micrometer rear peep rather than just the basic flip sight. Supurbly accurate, and fun to shoot. I can sit at the 200 yard birm and shoot targets all day. Ammo is still pretty readily available at local sporting goods stores to which is a big plus if I needed it. There is something about the feel of the rifle that just really makes it a pleasure to shoot.

Walker, the Swiss Gun Board folks said the K-31 would cost $3000 to make, and that was 3 years ago.

I have 3 of them, and they are accurate. There is a clamp mount made by St. Marie available from Grafs to scope them without drilling. Grafs has some relatively low cost ammo.

MBK: Where is the Swiss Gun Board? I have 2 but have not shot them yet. What is the recoil like?

K31 is by far the superior gun, but ammo is EX-PEN-SIVE.

If you reload, that's the way to go. These k31s will dry up soon, and prices will go up accordingly over time.

Given that choice, if you don't reload, but actually want to shoot this thing, I'd go for the Enfield, as milsurp .303 ammo is still available, and commercial production ammo is cheaper.

And I'd also repeat the suggestion of looking into a Mauser. Yugo 24/47s can still be found for under $200 in excellent condition, and that probably won't last forever either.

Both are good guns. The K-31 is a better one, in terms of design, accuracy, and power. There were a LOT more of the #4s made- which may make getting parts 10-15 yrs down the road easier. Milsurp ammo for both is drying up- I scored 1000 rds of Greek 303 and was delighted- and have not seen another single round since. Last 7.5 x 55 Milsurp (which is GREAT stuff) I paid $35/ 60 rd pack, and was happy to do so. All the suppliers show BACKORDER status when checking for the K-31 Milsurp ammo.

i have owned and fired the mauser, british enfield, and the swiss k-31. the k-31's are drying up. MBK is right about the modern day cost statement, being over $3000.00 to remanufacture today. neither the mauser or the enfield would be that costly. my suggestion to you is to buy the k-31. they are extremely accurate at long ranges. more so than the enfield.
